Ok folks, you may laugh but here it is:
Yep, I'm on FB, only way to always get an idea where and what our 6 kids and grandkids are up to so here it is....
As an ex-LEO, I always read articles on The BLUE to support my Brothers & Sisters. About 30 minutes ago I clicked on a post regarding a Southeast State Trooper accused of misconduct...AND, of course these days it was a "groping" incident on a traffic stop.
As SOON as I clicked on the story, several "pop up windows" appeared on my main screen advising I had a "virus" and to call their SPECIALISTS/HACKERS so they could remove it.
This is what I did, from advice of a friend who "cleans up" computers for a living:
*Do NOT try to "x" out each window in your main frame screen!!!
*ALWAYS "close or x" out from the BOTTOM of your screen (tool bar.) He says if you X out from the X provided on your main screen, BAM...if it's malicious, they got ya'!
*It was also recommended to me that if this happens, power down, reboot then run a manual scan just to be sure.
I just did the manual scan from a TOP of the line "malicious, anti-viral" system my company provided while I was employed and is still in effect. Results were nothing detected and no effect on computer performance as well.
Just trying to help as I know we probably have several computer folks who already know this...but, it can cost you $$ to clean it up.
By the way....my system has alerted me several times and would NOT open a few "links" from posts on the GS as well.
Be aware....Kuma
