I got drawn last year for the 2017-1018 TPWD guuded Waterbuck hunt at Mason Mountain. I've been meaning to do a short post with some pictures for some time.
My father in law and I got drawn for this hunt last year. To say it was an excitment and surprised would be an understatment.
This was a full guided, food and lodging included hunt. We where the first to arrive at the house, which was set above a man made dam and was stocked full of large catfish.
We drove around the first day and looked at alot of animals from antelope, whitetail, kudo, oryx, and waterbuck. My father in law was shooting a semi auto .308 and I planned to shoot my howa axiom .308 with barnes shells. The second day we popped up on the herd that morning and my father in law took a 120yrd shot on a 29" bull(I drew the short stick on the largest bull). The bull ran for about 50yrd before crashing into a catus brush. Ill try to find a picture and post it shortly.
That afternoon the herd had moved to the other side of the Mountain and it took several hours to find them. We spot and staulked for several hours before a cow busted us and went over the mountain to the west side. We regrouped and an hour later was back on them while in the jeep. After 30 mininutes I finally got a shot on my 26.5" bull. He went 60-70yrd before laying down and exspiring.
The trip was awesome and TPWD were apposolutley great host on the entire trip. It was a trip to remember, heres a few pictures from the trip.
