I posted this on FB and some folks thought it would be fun to start a live hunt thread.
I started seeing this deer on a new lease near Junction in 2016. He looked relatively young but had a decent frame on him. I hoped he would make it to the next year and he did. He hung around the entire season and disappeared over the Summer.
He showed up again in September 2017. I thought about shooting him last year because I loved the way his beams curled up, but by the time I finally had an encounter with him, he had broken off a brow tine and an entire G2...so he got a pass.
Obviously, I’m glad we didn’t shoot him last year because he looks even better this year!
The Covert cam sent pics of him at my stand Thursday and Friday mornings...I couldn’t wait for Saturday. His times were pretty early so I decided to get in the stand an hour and a half before daylight. That’s kind of a tough stand to sneak in to as it’s on the edge of a big field dotted with oak trees. Deer like to feed and bed down out there all night long.
I must have run them off walking in because I did not see a single deer.
Yesterday afternoon I decided to make a move to another stand about 200 yards away. I saw five baby bucks but no sign of the target buck.
I had to go home last night but my camera sent me pictures of him again at BOTH stands this morning.
It’s only a matter of time before our paths cross! I’ll be updating this thread along the way. Right now we are planning to hunt for couple days mid week.
