Part time job for a student in BCS

    Howdy!

I was hoping y'all could give me some guidance/help. I am a sophomore Construction Science student at A&M looking for a part time Job. I am currently taking 13 hours but don't have class Monday-Wednesday-Friday and am looking for something since I can't sit still studying that long.

Any of Y'all have any recommendations for part time jobs in the BCS area? ideally it would be more outside/labor work vs waiting table or working at HEB. I don't really need the money but need something to do. I've applied to a few ranch hand stuff but never heard back.

    Thanks!

Reynolds and Reynolds was always hiring, but that may not be the type or work you’re looking for.

You're a CS major. Go see Martin Jackson at Brazos Paving and see what he has. BPI is a big civil contractor in that area and they do good work. You'll learn a lot while you're there. Or go over to Vaughn and see if they need to put an Aggie to work. You'll be so much more valuable with that degree if you have some experience to go with it. I hire CS majors every year, but they are so much more valuable with practical experience.

If you really don't need the money....your words....go ask if you can volunteer in their estimating department. Learn to do take-offs and how to put a proposal together. You do that and you'll be worth more to somebody when you graduate.

      Good luck.

Do.you know how to fix stuff ?
Put an add on craigs list offering your labor for what ever amount of money.you would be happy with per hour. I did that a several years ago and had people calling me all the time to help them with their chores and small const. Projects

If you don’t mind working retail I could help you out if you don’t mind working at Cavenders. I worked at Cavenders during college and know the manager pretty well.

I'll go check them out. Right now I have some experience on the labor side, I worked for a GC over the summer as a carpenter and got a few offers for internships through that, but I'm trying to get as much experience as I can since I did not "grow up" in the industry.

I'm currently taking estimating so I might talk to BPI and see what I can do. everyone I've talked to hasn't been that interested since they all want full time. as for the money part, I'll take what I can get but I am looking for a job for experience vs. money.

Listen to Curt and when you get out of school, go ask him for a job

Check with the Sherwin-Williams in CS and Bryan if you don’t find a construction job.
