This was mine. He was 69” for comparison. Not as big as some, but a P&Y and couldn’t be happier to have taken him at 35 yards with the bow. Having the cutters above the ear helps significantly with the mass because of that 3rd mass measurement is above the cutter it’s a very small number.

SW of Cornudus and far east Hudspeth.

        You hunt with McBride?

No idea because I wanted the meat more than anything, but here are my two.

There's a good thread on it on rokslide.com if I remember right. But more than twice the ear and mass is what I remember from the guys I met in Wyoming.

I’d say if it looks like the one in my avatar pic then shoot it. Twice. Lol.

Length. Mass. The higher up the prong starts will help mass measurements. Make sure the prongs aren’t busted.

I really wanted this freakalope but he wouldn't come to my side of the fence.

I really have no idea what he scores.

The folks up there guessed him in the 80's. When I killed him the guy I was hunting with pulled out a tape. He was 17"+ on one side and 16"+ on the other. His blades don't start until way up high. .

Other than that I've never actually had him scored.

                      Thanks!

We're considering a hunt in the future and trying to get a handle on it. Yours and Trophy8 definitely look tall! Mercs with the curve is nice and prolly harder to judge at distance. Id easily pass normal for the freakalope

There’s several videos on YouTube I’ve watched over this, one from randy newberg and another from Eastman’s. Everything I’ve read says pronghorn are the toughest animals to judge on the hoof in North America. Luckily all the articles use the same methods for judging quality as eye sockets for mass, ears for length, etc., another important factor is young bucks will look much bigger than they actually are due to not being fully grown so ears and eyes aren’t as big as what they appear. So seeing them around does will help to know a mature buck since he will definitely be larger as where as a young buck will be closer in size to the does.

There is a great article I just read on judging antelope in the current Eastmans Hunting Journal. Basically says mass is most imprtant as diamond 10x says above. I think the eye socket is 2 inches and helps give you a good judgement.

My wife killed this one a few years ago. The boys I hunt with really like the freaks the most. If it doesn't have some kinda character they aren't interested in it. Guess that's our equivalent to a whitetail with trash.

My advice and I killed a bunch, is don’t get trigger happy and find one you like.

With that said be careful with the cape, hair is hollow and soaks up blood and will stain easily.

Good luck I leave next week to chase them at my place.
