The last good buck I killed was further than I normally shoot, 35+ if I remember right. Late season, in a field.

I hunt in the woods 90% of the time and I try to keep my shots <30. I range a ring around my tree when I get set down and reference that ring for any shot opportunity.

More often than not, I’m out of range, but that’s bowhunting & what makes it fun. Being good (&lucky) enough to choose the right tree on the right day, then being able to get a clean shot off is exhilarating.

I have not and probably will not ever shoot deer over 30 yards. Hogs though are totally different and I carry old arrows just for pigs. I'll sling them way out there on a hog but i usually don't hit them.

          34 yds - the longest
          7 steps - the shortest
          and a whole lot inbetween!!!
But on average, my shots are usually around 17yds.

I like seeing these reasonable distances. I've seen too many on this forum taking up for folks making crazy long shots. I was beginning to think I was alone in taking 30yd or less shots at whitetails

Whitetails this last year were 52 (longest ever for a WT), 20, and 29.

Longest ever was 62 yds at a blackbuck but had to put a second arrow in him at 55 yds.

                    17yds
                    20 yds

All of the rest have been 15-20yds.

25 yards max for me on whitetail at our place due to having to hunt from the ground and the deer are jumpy. Other game I’ll shoot out to 50 as I’m confident at that range and the animal won’t jump my string.

I don't own a range finder but I can judge pretty good all my kills except one is inside 40 yards with one WT being 60 steps.
