    Private adoption questions

Is there a lawyer on here that could answer a few basic questions on a private adoption?
    Google isn't cooperating.

Basically, adopting a child, not through an agency.

What kind of time frame does it all take to complete if there are no snags with either biological parent, and what are the typical legal fees associated with the adoption.

If you don't have to deal with the signing over of rights, the process is a lot quicker and less expensive. It cost me I believe $1,400 in total to adopt my daughter. That covered court costs, paperwork, and lawyer fees. You do have to complete a home study. Your lawyer can provide you a list of people who do home studies. They do pry in to your life a bit, but it's not so painful.

I think it took about 60 days in total from the start of the process to the court date. You will want to get the home study completed early in the process and send in your paperwork for the background checks. Those can take a bit to get back (30 days) and are needed to set the court date.

Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any further questions.
