So...control what you can. Someone resists arrest, beat his ***. Someone slow rolls a stop sign, write a ticket. But you can beat that *** and write that ticket with respect. Good LE officers do it everyday.
Exactly my point. The police lose a lot of support with average citizens because of incidents where mutual respect is not given.

Now imo a lot of the issues that started arising in specific communities can be directly related to Obama's negativity toward police officers. We all remember a few years back the incident with the Harvard professor. Obama immediately comes out with no facts or knowledge about the incident and state that the police "acted stupidly" and went on to say
"But I think it's fair to say, No. 1, any of us would be pretty angry; No. 2, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and, No. 3 ... that there's a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately."

When the Facts came out the police officers actions were deemed appropriate. There were several incidents like this that put the notion that the police are wrong and they should not be allowed to do their job. This emboldened more resistance from certain people against LE.

I have no idea how they will correct the damage that was done regarding the relationship between LE and these communities.

Im not in LEO but here would be my suggestion.

As others on this thread indicate, in certain neighborhood, negative interaction is the norm. When they are children, they see the negative interaction and really can't make an informed decision on who is good or bad. Unfortunately, the parents that are around probably don't help much here either. That cycle continues. This can probably be said of the officers patrolling the area and the locals.

My thought is to hire more policemen and have them work 32 hrs a week on patrol and 8 hrs a week doing community outreach and interaction. Focus on school or other areas that get kids involved.

I can promise one thing... the problem won't fix itself.

Couple of thoughts. One is people don’t want to pay to hire more. Two is that law enforcement can’t fill the spots they already have.

                  Funny you mention that.

A while back a coworker and I (who is black) drove by his moms house in a VERY affluent neighborhood in the city to check on it while they were in Africa. We went inside and apparently set off the alarm. When we exited the home to get back in a marked unit we found 4 members of another agency.

They all looked at me and asked if everything was ok. I had to tell them thats his momma house!

Nah, that's not how it works. I been arrested, put in jail, thrown in ditches, made to sit on the side of the road, put in the back of cars, etc.., more than most felonious thugs. I have no criminal history, never been charged, no record, spotless MVR, and not a smart*****. But, because I have longish hair, I am instantly profiled, everytime. Everytime, I am talked to in a condescending way, and they are 100% positive, I have drugs. Everytime they have some bs reason to search my car. They lie and tell me I have a warrant, and put me in the back of the car, then when they finish searching it and find nothing, the warrant suddenly comes back clear.
At 18, pulled over and snatched out of my truck before I could even open the door, and thrown in a ditch, same with my 16 yr old brother, by 2 300lb redneck cops. Why, 2 truckers called in and said we were driving in the median, around other cars, etc..Truckers show up, yeah, that's a red s10, but it ain't the right one. Oh sorry boys, y'all have a nice day.
At 19, Shady Lake park, in Mena Ar. Whole family is camping. Out of nowhere, US Marshall's show up. Grab five of us at RANDOM, and 5he first thing they tell is we're going to jail. In cuffs, in the trucks, and then grill us relentlessly, about us taking our clothes off, and walking up to some 80 yr old women to rape her. We were all ages, youngest was 13. Only took them idiots 7 hrs to figure out it wasn't us.
Been to jail 4 or 5 times in Dallas for a warrant that didn't exist. No charges. Book him in, search him thoroughly, and kick him back on the street, once at 3 am.
At 23, spent an entire day with border patrol, coming back from Tijuana. Had a Akansas drivers license, truck rented in Texas, and I was only across the border for about 2hrs. So put 2 and 2 together, this redneck white boy, with no record, OBVIOUSLY has a truck full of crack. That was an intense interview, while they disassembled a rented Dodge Dakota, that dogs had already walked 20 miles around. And of course I'm lying, when I tell them, I'm not a druggy.
I got stories for days, but no record.
I have a life to live, and I'm tired of having to oblige Johnny Law everytime hes getting his rocks off, because he's convinced he's fixing to take me to jail. That seems to be their only point, find someone to arrest. Here are a million reasons to arrest him.
We have the highest incarceration rate, in the WORLD. Big business, big money. There are so many laws, and ridiculous bs in this country, it's scary. They have every reason in the world to pull us over, and we make it a law :-/.
So no, law enforcement has never been any friend of mine. Quite the opposite, and they are all the same, anywhere you go. It's always a guilty verdict, before the window even gets rolled down.
And it's not that I hate the person who is the cop, I hate what he stands for, that he blindly just follows orders, that they aren't allowed(or simply won't) think for themselves. Not to mention, all hes trying to do, is find a reason to take my freedom away, and won't lose a wink of sleep over it.
Take silencers for example. The majority consensus on here, is the hearing act should be repealed, anybody should be able to own a silencer. What cop on TBH, if he pulled a good ole boy over, who was on his way to shoot some pigs with a buddy, would let him go if he found a nice homemade silencer in his truck? Guy has no record, and family. He's going to jail everytime. Here's you a felony case sir, have a good evening.
I don't know, but when every interaction you have with a cop, is him accusing, and trying to find a reason to take my freedom, it doesn't really build much trust or love.
And this happens to millions of people in the US, everyday.

Well, I am dang sure he was glad you were there!!!
A fraternity brother of mine was helping to detain a twenty something anglo guy who was vandalizing cars in a nice neighborhood and the police drew down on him as they thought he was the perpetrator. Not a great day to say the least for a man with two small children back then, Army veteran and working as a multi-degreed mechanical engineer. They apologized profusely once others on his block came to his defense. The vast majority understands that crap happens (everybody knows that) but once you have lived it you tend to walk on eggshells...……..or go completely ballistic. We definitely pay attention but hate is not even part of the scenario towards LEO's, but we clearly understand the history and the environment has not been over-whelmingly positive.

I’m sorry too that you have had the bad experiences. I’ve had some and yeah it definitely feels crappy when you’ve done nothing wrong but the officer acts as though you’re guilty regardless. I was respectful always and truthful.

There have been a couple times I’ve had to drop names and rank in LE to them to stop the reaching and searching for things that don’t exist. When you’ve done absolutely nothing wrong and you aren’t fearful or hiding anything, they can keep digging and digging but there is zero of anything to be criminally charged with. I did experience that and yes it is and was disturbing. When the officer learned just a tad about who all I know in law enforcement he quit with the useless digging and searching and left in a hurry. It shouldn’t have to be that way, but that was a similar experience with two different officers from the same PD on two different dates. So yes I know how it feels to be not guilty of doing anything wrong yet you are treated differently. The key thing is I was respectful and cooperative. One of the instances was where a female drug dealer tried to get even with me by making erroneous calls to the PD about me being a suspicious person while I was out walking for exercise. In the end, things didn’t work out so well for her and her bunch.

I'm not trying to argue, or both cops, just my opinion of the system.
I've spent lots of time around DAs, Sheriffs, Judges, etc...my dad spent small fortunes putting em in office.
Been anteloping hunting with em, elk hunting with em, some were on dads lease, best friends with some of their kids since I was 6 or 7.
I have had the same conversation with all em, most times smoking a joint. They didn't care, but had no problem giving some 22 yr old his first case, and a record for the rest of his life, for a ounce of weed.
This too happens all over the country, everyday to people the cop knows, or the judges best friend, etc..
I am free man, I have made my way, on my own, since the day I left home. I've never moved back in with my parents or ask them or anyone for help, since the day, I left. I have 0 criminal history, LEAVE ME ALONE. I do not care about your laws, nor am I interested in proving I'm not a criminal. I bother no man, cause no trouble, and live as drama free as any person you will ever meet. I'm just trying to live life brother.

                              No harm no foul.

It happens. To everyone. I had a constable write me a ticket in wadsworth TX. Then he told the judge I was rude and threw empty beer cans out the window. Said he had it on video.

I asked for a copy. Mysteriously the video tape got lost. He knew I was a peace officer and still lied about it.

Even had a trooper put his pistol in my face for California rolling a stop sign at 2am in the middle of rice country east bernard.

I've never once not been truthful, or polite to a cop. When they start accusing and asking, that's the end of it though. There's nothing nice to be said after that point. He chose sides first, not me, everytime. They are public servants who work for me, not bullies, coercers, judge, jury, and keeper of the Constitution all in one, and on a power trip at that, as soon as you say anything they don't like. So, there's no respect from me when we get to that point.
