Hooking up a Generator to a Portable Office Trailer
We have a portable office trailer that we have converted into a bunkhouse. Our new lease does not have electricity. Is there a way to connect a generator to the breaker box on our trailer?
Piece o cake. Go to Home Depot and get enough 8/4 SO cord and a 30 amp male cord cap that will plug into your generator's 30 amp 250VAC outlet. Then just wire up the cord cap and hard wire the other end into your panelboard. All you really need to remember is black/red are your hot wires and the terminals on the cord cap will have a gold colored tint to them. The white wire is your neutral, the terminal on the cord cap for this will be silver, and the green is your ground. Also, for safety reasons you should drive a ground rod near the trailer and install a number 8 or 10 ground wire from your neutral terminal in your panel to the ground rod.
