    Base Layers for stand hunting?

Whats a good base layer set up for stand hunting or tree stand hunting? Ive heard mixed reviews that merino is better for spot and stalking and moving around and its really not suited for "sitting" or "standing"? Some say merino is the absolute best next to skin you can do. Some say synthetic a little tighter to the skin is better? What says the green screen? Which brand do you guys wear?

I wear a browning badlands zip up over a hoodie and t shirt then usually under Armour long johns with my jeans if I’m box blind hunting. I wait until it gets nasty cold before I do all of that though. Wool socks and compression gear seem to work best for me when it comes to layering, even cheap Walmart stuff will do the trick.

Sitka Heavyweight bottom and top is what I use and it does a much better job at keeping me warm than my previous heavyweight base layers made by Redhead and Under Armour

I prefer Patagonia heavy weight capilene.

Really depends on where you are going to hunt

            East Texas in Nov-Dec?
            Kansas late season?

I wear light merino base layer and polar fleece outer layer with wind blocker and stay comfortable most of the season in Smith county
If it gets below 35 I will switch to a mid layer of fleece and an outer layer with wind blocker and/or water resistance

I hunt in a tree stand with my bow 95% of the time. So whatever I wear has to be quiet and non-bulky

BTLowery, can you give names on the clothing your wear? Sounds like a great set up to wear to stay warm.. Thanks

                  C4E merino base layer
Russel outdoors if I need a mid layer
Natural Gear fleece hoodie and pants with wind blocker membrane

Another thing that makes a big difference is a good fleece neck gaiter

skin 360 the best I ave tried . GF bought me a set and they are amazing .

IF mid temps then just my light insulated six site pants and jacket if colder my badland vest . A vest was new to me last year and I really like it much more freedom of movement

For sitting I like heavy synthetic base layers especially if bow hunting in pop up, tripod, tree stand because it allows me to wear fewer layers thus being less bulky and quieter than a big thick jacket and pants. I like the cabelas ECWS series for this situation.

When hiking and spot and stalk which is very uncommon for me in Texas I wear merino, cause it allows your skin to breathe and if you get wet it will keep you warm

I use SmartWool base layers for both chasing elk in mountains and sitting in a blind in Texas. You can normally find SmartWool base layers/socks marked down online a lot.

My outter layers are where I change clothing wise between Texas and mountains. Sitting still in a blind is 100% about warmth retention for me, as such, breath-ability and weight are less of an issue. The mountains are a whole nother animal, last years elk hunt I averaged 25 miles per day on foot. I was hiking with just a long sleeve base layer top and I had my KUIU pants unzipped for a ton of ventilation.

I wear wrangles and a black carharrt jacket. Long sleeve T-shirt and sweatshirt if it’s really cold
