I shot what I would consider horrifically on Saturday and it took nearly 3 boxes to shoot a limit.

Back in the day when I hunted doves almost every weekend, I was around 1.5-2.5 boxes of shells per 15 bird limit. That depended on the situation I was in like mentioned above.
I also moved to an IC choke and started doing better also. I may not kill them dead but felt I had the upper hand at CQC on the ground with them. Also, hunting thick brush, it was easier to find a wounded bird than a dead one.

You could have a plowed up field with a patch of weeds on it and a bird would fall in it if you were to shoot one out there.

The birds were were shooting Sat and Sun would humble a lot of fellas. Coming over 20-50 at a time and darting and diving as soon as they hit the fence line with wind in their face so they could cut on a dime.. It was like shooting moving house flies with a sling shot...And to top it all off they were coming from the west so you were looking toward the sun. Challenging but fun as hell. I'd have probably been much better armed with my light whippy 20 ga auto instead of my 32" barrelled 20 ga O/U there but I wanted a good shoot with my some-what new 725.
