I had it happen once, but got to it before it got so bad that I couldn’t save it. If it’s real bad, it’s almost impossible to get that nasty smell completely out of it.

    Good luck!

What I'm wondering...or did the power just go out? ...or heaven forbid, was it plugged in to a ground fault protected circuit?
But yeah, if you decide to work on it...cheap particulate mask with Vicks all up in it so you can breef!!

Thank goodness I saw this thread. It reminded me to ask the wife if she reset the breaker from yeaterday. She had called, told me about fridge and freezer being off and I told her how to reset it. Just asked her today at 9am and she said she forgot to do it.

        Stuff still cold be defrosted.

I am puzzled why people still have freezers connected to GFCI outlets.

Even if you bought a production home (or similar) from another, use an extension cord plugged in at the garage door opener outlet. If you don't have that outlet, run the cord up into the attic where there is a non-GFCI outlet.

No worries brother your capes are at the tannery.

Well I rolled the freezer in the garage and by the door. I put three box fans blowing by me and outside, gloved up, opened the freezer and dove in!!!
YIECKS what a stinking mess! I knew I was trouble when the vacuum packed bags looked like balloons! I filled six plastic trash bags with the rotten meat and one with three towels I used to soak up the bloody swamp on the bottom.
Problem was the dumb wasn’t open on Sunday and not today and I have a date to meet my 11 grandchild first thing in the morning.
Crazy thing is I found that the rotary switch had been turned to OFF!!??? WTFO?
Not sure if a drug a sack of trash by it or our ghost turned it off while I was elk hunting?? So, I put the rot back in the freezer and it is now running. I added some dry ice on top of the rot to help chill it.
After my grand daughter is born and all is well I plan on running home and put all the bags of rot in the box the new freezer came in and head to the dump.
                    What a stinking mess!!!!!
I will be ordering a couple freezer alarms today!
