    Incredibly Blessed

Some of you may or may not listen to Bobby Bones in the morning. My wife does. She was just telling me how a cohost, Amy, has an adopted 11 year old and she can’t ride a bike. The kid is from Haiti. My wife was genuinely shocked! I had to explain to her how blessed we are to live in the U.S.A.. I told her there are literally places in the world where you can starve to death. You can die because of the water you drink. In America, our poor have cellphones! Other than parents abusing kids, you cannot starve to death here! Water is an afterthought. Even with all the drummed up drama we go through,I consider myself blessed to live in the U.S.A.!

Many many Americans have never seen people living in ture poverty and despair. My mother , may she rest in peace, used to tell of her time in Mexico as a child. They ate from the trash at times. She also told that they were invited to eat with a family that had a little more than they did and remembered eating a potato for the first time at that meal. After that meal she told herself that one day she would be rich and have potatoes every day. When I was growing up we would go with her to visit some of the less fortunate in our community and she always reminded us to be respectful and help in any way we could. I will never forget her response whenever we were stopped at a border patrol check point and the agent asked my mom if she was a US citizen, her response was always "By the grace of God."

Man, what a great reminder. A few years back I was trying to teach my son about how fortunate we are and we got the opportunity to sponsor a couple of kids that live overseas. It opened his eyes to how good we really have it here.

It’s amazing how we take so much for granted in this country. I have to stop every once in a while myself and say thank you Lord.
