I had horrible experience with Trane and their warranty, or lack their off. And the group that installed it EnviroMax, they were extra awful. Had great experience with Daiken though.

Have a 15 yr old RUUD, just paid a guy $400 to repair, didn't work then at $1700 he replaced the coil. Wasn't the problem, paid another guy $1000 to actually repair the leaking parts on the outside unit. So $3100 in repairs on an old unit, hoping it holds up a few more years. Not sure what brand to use when it's time?

I think I’m gonna upgrade my attic insulation and get radiant barrier installed before I replace my low seer
17 yo American Standard. It runs like a tank and only ask for a refrigerant bump every now and then.
Maybe if I can reduce it’s workload it won’t have to run so often on the 90*+ days.

        **edit** nock on wood .....

Radiant barrier will amaze you with a difference in heat I put it on several years ago and you can work all day in my attic with a fan, yes it’s hot and it sux but the difference is unreal!

How much did it cost you to install and what kind of difference are you seeing in electric bills on average?

We run a two stage Trane for our main unit with a high efficiency furnace and a smaller American standard for the third floor. Happy with both, the Trane is noticeably quieter but they’re located along our gym and one of the guest rooms so we never hear them.

I took over my dads place after he passed away. The AC unit was a Singer (yes like the sewing machines). It was installed in 1977. It ran just fine (with normal repairs from time to time) until just 2.5-3 years ago. The only reason I couldn’t have it serviced was because the fitting to charge the system had rusted/rotted so bad that it would not open. I knew it was long over due for a new setup. I had a Bryant system installed. I was not at all impressed with the install crew, but the until seems to be doing well. Even in the hottest part of summer, the electric bill is only $125-$135 monthly. This is in a 1977 model house with no insulation upgrades since it was built.

Ignore bad reviews, count up the number of GOOD reviews.
As a small business owner, I can promise you, it is like pulling teeth to get people to leave good reviews, even when the same person will send 11 of their friends/family to you.
but sneeze in someones house and they'll blast you across the interwebs for weeks.

I’ll say again. The best brand out there will be a piece of junk if installed incorrectly. Go with a company with a strong reputation and great guarantees.
