100% true! The installer is the #1 thing I would be looking at

Lennox, or one of its clones. I sell Air Ease (lennox clone) myself. Make sure it is properly sized, and properly installed. Get at least a 16seer system, and get the most efficient system you can afford. Two stage or modulating will give you the best comfort. I don't install a system without a high performance air filter, the 1" filters will only stop the dirt clods. 10yr. parts warranty at least. Don't oversize the system, or you will not control humidity.

Brand name is not as important as installation and sizing. Just like automobiles, every mfg. has built a piece of crap or two.
As the variable speed compressor technology advances, it will soon be the only thing offered. Within the next couple of years, most mfgs will not offer capacitor fan motors, as the ECM motors are 20+% more efficient, and are capable of variable speed allowing fans to match compressor capacity. The variable speed compressors and fan motors are making SEER's of 20 and more.

Do some research before you buy, not just equipment, but also contractors.

This year I have changed out 2 systems that were installed in 1978. A Rheem, and a Luxaire. I wouldn't install either one of those brands today.

Had a new Trane installed in July. Like it so much I may replace the other one even though it is working fine. Both were 20 years old before the replacement.

I think this topic is similar to what truck should I buy. Everyone has had good and bad experiences with all of them. I replaced both indoor and our door units in my house with Carrier units. I got the top of the line interior units. I have a 3100 square foot house and my electric bill was $215 and we keep it at 71-72 from 5pm to 6am. However there is no one there during the day and it runs at 75 I believe.

I had a reputable company that I do a bunch of business with do my install. I asked them if they had a preference on manufacturer. He said that he always goes with Trane, Carrier or one more manufacturer that I can not recall at the time. He suggest the one that has the most rebates at the time.

American Standard is a great option Trane, Carrier and Rheem are all great too. I chose American Standard after talking to several AC guys and wanted to keep it simple. If I have an issue I wanted something I wouldn't have to wait on parts. Several service guys told me American Standard was my best bet for simplicity and parts availability. Generally they would have the part on the truck.

Thanks for the input. I will focus my research on contractors.

Any recommendations for the DFW area?

                      AC Units

They are ALL junk if they are not installed properly. The problem with Some of the bigger AC contractors (Some Not ALL Big Contractor's) that they use sub crews for installs. They pay these crews a certain amount for the complete installation. Some of these crews will cut corners to cut down the amount of time it takes to finish the job. Especially in the summer months when it's hot and the demand for install crews is at it's highest. The more installs they can do the more money they can make. As said before many of the NAME brands fail just like the base brands. If you want made in America look at Goodman Daikin products. Daikin has bought Goodman and has brought over Four Thousand jobs to Waller, Texas. While the three Big Name Brands took their manufacturing plants to Mexico.
Ask your contractor why should you choose him over the next guy. Good Luck to you

Highly recommend Walker AC and Heat in mesquite. Richard will take care of you and is a TBH member!

We went with a Trane unit and couldn’t be happier!
