Anyone give up leasing for going on hunts?

Anyone given up leasing for going on a package hunt each year? I can’t afford to do both. I love the lease life and hanging with friends but would love to experience other hunts. Just curious about those that have done it.

I gave up getting a lease for several years due to my son traveling every weekend for select baseball. But now he's grown and I really miss haveing a place to hunt so I'm searching for a lease.

That’s a tough one for me as well. I’m looking at trying for other western states otc route as I can afford that and my lease....... at least until the wife catches on lol

I package hunted for a number of years while I was building my company and then doing all the traveling baseball from the late 90s to 2005. Finally got time to have a lease again and did that for 9 years. Lost that lease and have been mostly sitting out the last 3 years. Im back to doing at least one package hunt this year. Both have their pros and cons.

10 days in alaska for caribou hunt last year and 10 days in colorado chasing elk =cheaper than lease in texas and alot different hunting.

This year 10 days in colorado chasing elk and 10 days in utah chasing elk=cheaper than a lease

Next year hunting buddy and i will be back in Alaska.

THIS - only you can make that decision. Plus and minus to each option - I am lucky to be able to do both - but giving up the lease life where I get to go on weekends over the span of 4 months is priceless

This is the delimma. I think lease is best for the money as I get about 25 days a year that I see as a vacation as opposed to a few days. I suppose the lease is best bang for the buck.

I prefer the lease route though. Those few days I get to myself really help reduce my stress level. On the other hand, I would save at least a thousand by going to Cuerno Grand, and it would cut my drive by 2 hours.

I'd love to be able to go on some package hunts again, but I'm not sure that I can give up my leases. I know it probably crazy, because it's awful hit on the work days, but I enjoy the whole lease experience (camp fires, camp houses, and even maintaining feeders and stands).

Id rather make my memories sitting around the fire eating a steak drinking a beer, watching college football, sittin in a blind on a hunt , filling feeders, fixin pens and blinds, spending time with my grandson. Than on a hunt most likely without friends for 5 days.

I’m doing both right now .. leasing, and do about 2-3 exotic hunts per year. Definitely feeling the pinch.

I’ve done both. Lease with some good people, and good deer. Work days in the off season, putting up feeders, putting out blinds, conversing through group txt throughout the year. The cold nights around a fire with friends and family. Lease for me all day everyday. In fact I’ll take it a step further. I like a lease away from home. I know some hate the drive, but I love it. The feel of “getting away” to a place no where near where you work or live is part of it for me. I want somewhere that’s too far to drive just to hunt the day. A camp to cook and sleep tonight. From the hot summer work days, to the cold nights sitting around a fire; it’s all part of it for me and a guided hunt takes it from me.
