Why would you need ice if you have a walk in cooler?
Aside from hanging your game, you can keep anything else cold that needs to be cold like drinks and groceries. When we go to Kansas, the walk in is where we keep the beer.

Ice for friends/clients/hunters taking meat/food/drinks home
Driving around in the truck or utv you gotta have some ice keepin them cans cold
Enough ice for parties or big groups in camp
But I think if I had to have one it would be a walkin
Of course you will get more use out of an ice machine if you used it all year for everything. I assumed this was in regards to game storage, and taking care of your deer meat. For that nothing beats a walk in cooler. If you go to any butcher shop the animals are not sitting in ice chests. They are in walk in coolers.
Ice machine!
Then add the walk-in later.
We have both, although the walk-in isn’t functional at the moment. I will be adding a 220v LG window unit and the coolbot controller to it this winter.
The ice machine is hands down a must have if you spend a lot of time working, fishing, ect. during the summer months on your property or lease.
Get a cheap chest freezer and bag and store your ice also.
Although ice machines can be a PITA to maintain, I would opt for the ice machine first. We have an old flake ice machine that I maintain, and have had to repair several times, but it keeps on kicking. We only run it during deer season.
A cooler would be real nice, but I am hesitant to construct one on land that we lease. Plus I would probably be in charge of maintaining/fixing it. Plus you will always need ice to keep your drinks cold. I'm not about to leave all of my drinks at camp.
Personally, I bought a walk-in freezer from the school district last year that was a deal too good to pass up.... I mainly bought it just for the panels. Once I get a house with some land I am going to reassemble it.
Then I need to get an ice machine for my house
No question that I would pick the walk in cooler. Ice machine does not help much when you kill an axis when its 105 degrees outside. We don't use much ice for the ride home since the meat is already cooled down when we 1/4 it up.
Have an ice machine and a walk in cooler that is sitting in pieces in the barn that needs repair and to be put together. We use th ice machine all the time but a walk in cooler IMHO is much more useful especially when it comes to hunting.
If you are talking about having one of the two at home, I would say an ice machine because you can use it year round. When I retire, my retirement house will definately have an ice machine.
If it is for the lease only, I would take the walk in cooler.

Oh yea it does, fill containers with ice so no water leaks out ( bottles, bags, milk jugs) and keep a cooler with the ice jugs( preferably a yeti or like )in the utv or truck, Kill something skin it quarter it up immediately and get it in the cooler. You can hunt the rest of the day, don't have to hurry back to camp to get it cooled down ( no way it's going to cool down if it's 100 degrees out, hotter then the meat is when you killed it. ) and it's not on ice of some kind. Even if it's a short trip back to camp. It's not going to cool down and probaly get dusty from the ride. You get back to camp we place it in a freezer, but you could hang it in a cooler. Rotate jugs of ice every night, for fresh ice in the am and go again. By placing the meat in a freezer. When we are ready to head home after 10 days. All meat is frozen like a rock and remains frozen until we get back home , in a day or two. Freezers nice when we are headed down and all our meat and food are frozen for dinners each night, bags of ice for drinks and what not. We get down there plug it in and keeps our meals frozen, ice frozen for drinks. As the meals and ice are used, it fills up with meat. Works so good it's crazy. They have a walk in cooler were we hunt but haven't used in years, this way works so much better for us its unbelievable.
