    converting 6v to 12v feeder

I have a friend that has a Game winner 6v stand and fill feeder.
He lives several hours a way from the lease so when I fill my feeder, I usually fill his.
It is about an hour drive each way for me.

So..... I test fire his and the battery is dead (I thought) as it would just barely spin.

I drive to longview, get another battery and solar panel, go back to the lease and the second battery is also dead.

I stop on my way home at an auto parts store and buy a 6v charger.
The next morning the battery is big as a grape fruit.

So I drive back to longview and buy another battery and the proper charger.
I took it off the charger this morning and drove back to the lease.
It still does not throw corn.

Now I figure I have a couple of options.
I can't put a standard spreader on it as the varmint cage is too small.

I can go back to longview and buy another 6v motor and 6v controller
I can go back to longview buy an ammo can, 12v battery and controller

Will the 12v battery burn up the 6v motor ?

    PS

    I hate junky feeders

I bought several feeders used and ended up with about 3 of these Game Winner 6 volt feeder units on 55 gallon drum feeders. Same issues. The brand should be either “Hasbro” or “Mattel” not Game Winner.

The battery life was max 1-2 weeks when I COULD get them to function. The lugs on the 6 v motor are so small conventional connectors for #16 or even #18 AWG wire are too loose. Even tried soldering them.

Ended up replacing all with larger 12 volt control boxes from Foreverlast ( available on Amazon) or Redneck brands. Boss Buck and All Seasons also sell retrofit 12 v control box kits with integral motors, spin plates, digital control units etc. will work. Had to use different / larger drilling template on bottom of barrel for brackets and replacing varmint cages. But it did allow me to salvage barrel, funnel, leg brackets, legs, and lid.

Good luck with those POS Game Winners,

I would have him buy a 12 volt timer unit and do a swap, usually $100 and worth it!

What I would do is cut a hole for the larger motor, just large enough for the bigger box to squeeze through. Have you added a solar panel to this battery (if rechargeable)?

But I wouldn’t buy any more bsttieries for that piece of junk.

The only good way I see to fix that would be to cut out and extend downward the coon cage (or completely replace it), and replace the existing control box with a good 12v setup with solar panel.

I have put 12v on the 6v motors without issue. Motors are still working and spins the hell out of them. I can't remember the brands of the feeders though.

I just retrofitted two old feeders. Used ammo can for the box, 12v motor, The Timer, solar panel eliminator spinner.. Used all thread to fix the ammo can to the feeder barrel
