I have a question about all of the late evening kills. Were the elk recovered within a few hours or, were they recovered the next day? If it was the next day, was the meat still good?
No rhyme or reason for me. About half early morning to mid morning and the rest late afternoon. Middle of the day usually pretty slow unless some type of weather change or maybe a light drizzly cool day.

For me, most of our late evening kills go like this: Shot, wait 30 minutes then look at shot location/blood. Back out and head back to camp. Eat dinner, discuss shot angle, location, behavior of elk on exit and then head back out with our group to track/recover (usually 2-3 hours after shot). There have been a couple times we've seen the sunrise due to multiple harvests on same evening.
