Day 49 update. Although not much has changed regarding Emmett's care, we are heading in the right direction. We are still on the high frequency ventilator, howeve, the settings have been scaled back substantially. We are hopeful by tomorrow they will switch him to the conventional ventilator. A few days on that and maybe, just maybe, we can extubate and be back to CPAP. Emmett continues to show signs of duress, as he practically stayed on Versed (mild sedative) most of the day. I attribute it to ventilator, but his healthcare team thinks not necessarily. Either way, we're ready to see him off of it. Additionally, we are unable to hold our son while he's on this high frequency ventilator. This is really starting to eat at us, as we would give anything to hold him in our arms.

We reached the 48 hour mark with blood cultures still negative, giving us a huge sigh of relief. The doctors feared this would be more than just a UTI, but thus far it's the only positive test we've received back. Since Emmett is no longer receiving milk, his bowel movements have stopped. They are continuing antibiotics for his digestive tract, as the last stool he had still had a trace of blood. We're really hoping they can start him back on milk feeds by tomorrow. He's gained a ton of weight, now weighing 3 lbs 12 oz. However, much of this weight gain is related to his increased fluid intake, so we're expecting it to go down once he gets better.

Emmett is the most resilient little warrior we could ever have hoped for. We're so proud of what our little man has overcome. Even with odds working against him, he's prevailed and achieved. We pray the Lord continues to watch over Emmett. Also, Krystal and I want to reiterate our thanks to all of you who continue to do so much help raise funds for our little guy. Between T shirt sales to auction items and fundraiser things, this is all so humbling. We are appreciative beyond words.

Glad to see those blood cultures coming back "negative" for infection at 48 hours. Continuing prayers to battle away. Go Emmett!
