Just go buy a good quality pair of limb lopper's at the hardware stor and carry them on the 4 wheeler or in the truck. That way besides not hitting the bladder and making a mess you can also trim trees on the way into lunch

Tried it once and it worked great. Some properties require you to gut the deer in the field. This tool works great as part of the field dressing process.

I don't even gut deer or hogs. I cut the hind quarters off at the joints and don't have saw the pelvis either. I always hang them by there head also. I used to gut them until I a friend of mine showed me how to clean them this way. It's much easier and faster too, IMO. If I was gonna "cape one out" to have mounted, I would do it the conventional way.

I know that is a good way to do it but its not LEGAL ! The book states that you MUST TAKE ALL MEAT INCLUDING THE BONED OUT RIBCAGE! I have been ticketed for not gettinmg that meat before and I ALWAYS do now! Just an FYI

I just use a BuckBuster. It splits the pelvis and sternum with no trouble and I don't have to mess with loppers. It's not great for boning the deer out, but it will field dress and skin one in a hurry.
