    Moultrie D-40 question

How much battery life are you getting. In about 3 weeks mine was down to 25%.I know you can hook up an external battery but do you use 6 or 12 volt?I am happy with the camera other than that.Any info or input would be appreciated.

battery life in my sucked bigged time. WOuldnt last more than 3 weeks max. I purchased a power panel and it has been awesome. I used same batteries for months and was in the woods. The camera needs new batteries now, the power panel will not work even if full charge unless you still have the D batteries. But....with new d batteries and a sunny area it should last all year with unlimited photos. apparently the ds are only used with the power panel to wake up the camera is what I am seeing now.

Search power panel and look for a thread started by me and there are several options mentioned.

I've got 2 D40s.I usually get 6-7 weeks out of the batteries.I don't buy cheap batteries though.I just bought the power panel for one.If it works out I'll get another.

Yeah but after paying little over 200.00 for all of it plus tax.
You could have bought a better model that guarantees a longer battery life tho.
I also own a D-40 and face this same problem.
The camera is great but battery life sux.

        215.99 "150 day life" approx 21.5 weeks.
Even if it is half of what is advertised it is still 10 weeks, "70 days"

        319.99

I talked to someone one day, in academy and he had grabbed 4 of the MFH-DGS-160 off the shelf. I couldnt believe he was dropping that amount of $ so fast... So we talked.
Turned out he has a ranch in west texas and was using the d-40s and was ****** about the battery life. Then he went into the issue of having solar panels and all. He basically said these last long as they are advertised and you dont have to deal with allot of equipment in the field and the price is not much more.
He did say the battery life it very close to what is advertised.

Using regular D batteries I am getting about 3 weeks. At that point battery life is down to about 35%. That's with the camera taking about 40 pics/day.

I changed the settings on my D40 and decrease the multishot to 1 and increase the event delay time to 2min especially on a feeder. I got atleast 5weeks battery life on mine.

I don't know how long the batteries last on them. We have had 2 and both quit taking pictures before the batteries went dead.
