    eradicating dew berry

Anyone found a solution to getting rid of dew berry growth? I realize it sounds counterintuitive but there is not enough sun to produce good fruit and its taking over good plants. Will a weed cloth with crushed granite prevent it from coming back?

I got you covered Barret. Gimme a call. It’ll just push up outside of the cloth and granite.

Man I wish I could get some to grow here, my raspberries do pretty good. But can't get dang black berries to take. Wish I was close to ya, I would try and replant some more.

I've got the same problem. They've taken over 4-5 acres of pasture and increasing every year. Mine make berries but It's not worth the thorns to pick them. If I want berries I'll just go buy some.

You don't say where or how or numbers but in the pasture, a 2 4D and remedy mix will flat kill them. 1 oz of each and I use a backpack sprayer. If they're around other plants you don't want to kill it's tricky but a basal stem treatment of remedy/diesel painted on does the job if you are careful.

I have the same problem in my pasture. If they werent spreading I wouldnt mind them. But theyre all over. Looks like ill need to try some 24D and Remedy. Probably too late this year since theyve already seeded out right?

I’m in Washington this week and black berries appear to be the kudzu of the northwest.

Brush killer herbicide might work on the base if you cut them to the ground first.

You could hit it with RoundUp in Feburary.

For pastures, Burtonboy - we used Cimmeron Plus on my place and Purestand on my neighbors place. Purestand is the generic of Cimmeron. We sprayed 30 acres with an oil based surfactant for about $100. The 20 of the 30 acres was dewberries. The labels will tell you that you will need to spray it for 3 years to completely eradicate it. Spray it when the flowers are present which is typically March.

I also use Cimarron Plus with a nonionic surfactant to kill dewberry in the pasture. I have a higher kill rate if I spray them in the fall rather than in the spring. Respraying will be necessary to eradicate the whole area. Another product labeled to kill dewberry is Chaparral. I have not used it.
