    Outlook 2003 Help

I am trying to set my company email up on Outlook 2003. They told me at the office that I need to set it up as an exchange server. I have done this and every time I try to check the mail, it comes up telling me that I'm not logged on to the server. I have the server name right and my user name but I can't get it to work. Any suggestions?

I can log into Citrix and get in that way but that's a pain since you go to a virtual desktop on the server and cannot flip back and forth between it and your regular desktop.

Other than using Citrix, how do you connect to your work's network. Are you using a VPN client or just dialing straight in via dial up. If you're using VPN, make sure you have a valid connection and IP Address. If you are able to get to the internet through your work setup than you should get to the exchange server. Ensure the exchange server name is correct and try again. If this doesn't work I would call some of your local support folks. They way I described is how we do it at the IRS. Hope this helps.

I think I understand most of what you are asking. If we are not at the office, the only way I know to log in is through Citrix using either my air card or DSL at home. We go to our home page and there is a link called employee login. Click on that and it takes us to a log in screen that looks like this:

We then put our log in information in and it takes us to a screen like this:

The only part I'm not sure of is how to tell if I am on a VPN. I don't think so but I couldn't tell ya.

If you were using VPN, you would have a separate piece of software for it (VPN Client). From the pics and your description it does not seem to me that you will be able to use email at home using outlook 2003. In order to connect directly to an exchange server you must have a secure network connection. That is where the VPN client comes into play, it takes your internet connection whether it be DSL/Cable or Dial Up and connects to the network using a Virtual Private Network, this makes your ISP connection secure and able to use the network in place at work. In a nutshell looks like you are stuck using Citrix to read email while not in the office.

          Mike,
Does your email work inside the office?
Are you trying to pop mail from outside your network and that's where the problem starts?
Is your exchange server on a public IP and are you trying to get to it by IP or name?

Ask your IT people how to get to the exchange server from home. Some cases they have different routing names that have to be used or a VPN. Our company uses different names to access inside or outside. Might also ask if you have to make any local security changes on your machine. We have to set our LAN security to "NTLMv2 response only" to get in. Then it screws up your local network at home but that's another problem.
