I'm taking tarp and hammock so I can test different setups.

In Pagosa Springs you can hike up to 4-mile lake or Turkey Lake. Four Mile Falls is actually 4miles and it's an extra 2miles to the lakes. Supposed to be good fishing once you get up there.
Just got back yesterday from a two-week stretch in Colorado. I hated to come back.
Feel free to shoot me a PM and we can compare notes.Last edited by In-Yo-Grill; 07-26-2018, 07:44 AM.

If you don't have much hiking experience, you might to stick to trails that can be shortened if needed. So a nice circular route, with direct trails that lead back to the trail head might be good.
Also, have a backup plan no matter what. Backup water source, backup sleeping ideas. And please let folks know where you are going and when you are expected back. Have fun.

Michael, just West of Piedra on HWY 160 id FR 620. You can take that all the way up to Indian Mountain. There are camp sites up there. You will be at 10,000 feet. You can drop off the North side and get as steep as you want. You can walk up the the road a couple of miles and come back along the South side. It's not as bad but challenging. You can also camp at Lake Vallecito and hike up as far as you want.

Had a last minute change of plans. I was on my way to the airport in Austin, taking on the phone with my wife. She commented that she wished she could go with me (which we discussed on Tuesday but she didn't commit or seem all that interested). I told her I would cancel my flight and make a road trip if she wanted to tag along...so that's exactly what we're doing! I turned around, picked her up and we're rolling through NM as I type this.
With her bum knee (which she was scheduled to have replaced this past Tuesday until they rescheduled because she had a touch of poison ivy) she can't do any hiking, so that will limit my options for the weekend. However, we're still going to camp and I'm going to try to get a decent hike in after I deliver a couple of bits tomorrow around Ignacio.
Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'll definitely check a few out on future trips!
