Spend the money on a multi camera system with a hard drive. Make sure all of the cameras are no higher than 6 feet off the ground so the people have to look the camera nearly in their face. People put cameras up too high and all you get is a top of their heads when they wear hoods and hats. Have the hard drive locked up in some type of box that would take them a while to get it out of there.

The thing that sucks with the security cameras are the night pictures are so bad you can't who there are in 99% of the cases.

I use a Spartan game cam at my barn. It sends pictures to your phone as soon as it takes them. I use ATT for the provider, maybe 15.00(I think) a month for unlimited pics but there are other plans to use.

Game cams if properly hidden or camouflaged... Browning has just put out a dual lense cam that has a separate night time lense. I have not seen how well this particular model works. If you hard wire power to them you can run them on both time lapse mode as well as detect mode.

Cuddeback has a new system "cuddelink" I believe it's called. You can "tie/link" 15 cams together with one of those cameras relaying the pics via email or text.... Again hiding the cams is critical... The best part of these appears to be that you can place the relay cam out of view/harms way and high enough where cell service will be reliable.

I am curremty looking at a wired security system. I will post a pic below. Not sold on it yet as mass storage will need to be maintained. This system appears to be a FLIR product.

I have other suggestion but little time to type them out this morning. PM me if you want additional suggestions that could help you.

Lots of options from Lorex. I think a Lorex system is what I’m going with on my new house. I’ve researched them all and that seems to be the best option for me.

What model or models are you looking at?? I was looking at the system I posted but to record at 4K takes huge storage space....

I can tell you I bought a system at Costco for under $500 bucks and it has 8 cameras. I only set up 6. I did't need more and I used the 2 extra cameras for backup. There were a string of vehicle burglaries going on in my previous neighborhood and I wanted to catch them. Several people in the neighborhood had game cameras, ring doorbells, and other HD recording systems like mine. The footage I had was the only footage that was able to identify the individuals and lead to charges being filed. People had pics from far away, the tops of their heads, backsides, etc. You have to have the cameras very close to where they are going to be and set up low so you can identify tattoos, facial features, etc. I went a little overboard and had 3 cameras alone just for my driveway. There was no way they could approach the vehicles without walking right into the cameras. Set yours up and wear a hat or hood and walk by it. Go check the footage and see if someone could ID you. People in the neighborhood would leave their driveway lights on thinking this would deter them. It didn't. When I checked my footage with the driveway lights on, I noticed it washed out the recordings. It is just like the pictures you get of yourself walking up to the blind with a flashlight and the photos are washed out. If you want to catch them, make sure you do everything possible to get good video, and request fingerprints. The fingerprints may sound overboard but the detective that worked my case said we needed to ask for them if anything else happened. Having gone through everything I did to finally get a case on the guys that were doing the break ins, I would say you need to set things up right or don't do it at all. Putting a game camera in your yard is going to give you a false sense of security.

These systems y'all are talking about, do they require internet or WIFI? When I looked at them they all required WIFI. Has that changed?

What system is it?? Costco has several systems... I agree that trail cams to far back will be useless but they can be set up close and get very good pics as well. 18 mega pixel pics can be used to ID people if set up properly.

Some systems require wifi if they are wireless or if you want to view them remotely... All of the wired systems will record directly to the dvr... Some new systems creat their own "wifi" signal but it's just used to receive/communicate with the wireless cams (which will still require power some way or another) and not to connect you to the Internet...
