    Anyone have AFIB with RVR?

I recently had an incident where my blood pressure and heart rate went a little crazy. At least crazy enough for the ER to stop my heart and restart it again. Anyone else been through this? What can I expect as a 47 year old?

Stay on top of it, it’s nothing to play around with. Did doc say anything about a pacemaker/defibrillator or an ablation?

Not yet. I just got out of the hospital and will see the cardiologist this week to do a stress test. As of now I do not have any damage to my heart.

I have AFIB but I don't know what RVR is. I've had a pacemaker for 10 years, about to have it replaced I imagine, battery has about give up the ghost. A pacemaker and rat poison may be in your future.

I'm kinda reading quite a bit about having a pacemaker but I am also reading that it could go away or stay with me till the end. The way I see it, I'm just going to make the best out of all of my days. It was certainly a life changing event.

I am 40 and have had Afib for 5 years, had 2 cardioversions that didn't work. I honestly don't notice it very often, I take 2 Sotolal a day and go on with my life. My doc wants to try something different in the next 10 years to fix it. Honestly to me it is not a huge deal I just take it a bit easier when it is hot out, watch my weight and do a little cardio to keep my heart strong. My granny had it and lived to 86 my mom is 71 and has it.

Let me see if I can break it down. RVR is rapid ventricular rate. You dont always have that with afib (atrial fibrilation). RVR is usually intermittent. The ventricles (bottom part of the heart), not just the atria (top part, as in with afib) are pumping faster too. Heart is working really hard and most people have symptoms (palpitaions, shortness of breath). Usually a hospital admission because it needs IV meds to control the rate. Once the RVR is controlled you go home and take meds for just afib.

Definitely stay on top of it and take care of it. It will shorten the life of your heart.

Many people have it for some time before they find out and at that point significant damage can already be done.

Afib is a pretty big problem on my dad's side. They all have pacemaker/defibrillators.

Just talk to the cardiologist. He may just start you on a low dose beta blocker and rate control you. The other concern will be whether or not you need anti-coagulation to keep you from developing blood clots. While an ablation can help, its doubtful they will try it without multiple episodes.
