    Colorado Springs Tent Camping

We are heading up next week. I've never been. We are looking for something that's up in the mountains and not too crowded. We will be camping Wednesday and Thursday. I can only get 2 nights at a time out of my wife. The next 3 nights we will be at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort.

Any thoughts? We have a 5 and 7 year old that like to hike, the water, wildlife, typical kid stuff.

Go west out of Co Sprgs to Buena Vista, north to Granite, then go west to Twin Lakes. Nice area and not crowded.

Look up Taylor Park Reservoir and the campground nearby. We almost stayed there in June, but decided to forego bringing all of our gear. It’s a beautiful area.

Thanks. Taylor Reservoir is looking good with high temps in the 70's.

What are the must sees in the area? Especially the less crowded. I think Pike's Peak would be a must even if there is a crowd.

Tarryall Reservoir. Shouldn't be crowded and the trout fishing is very good. I don't fly fish, but I have caught some 20 plus inchers on 3-4" fire tiger minnow imitators and bass size poppers in the lake. Fish the east side starting at the last pull in around the north shore. You may even hook a decent pike. They are in there. You can fish the river running out of the lake with small inline spinners and do pretty well also. It's best for either spot if you have waders. You won't have to worry about snakes, but you could see the occasional black bear, cougar, or moose.

Be prepared wherever you go for mosquitoes. I just thought they were bad in the south. They can be brutal here. I mean unreal brutal. Thermocells and spray will be required. You will not be allowed to have a campfire. There are typically a lot of afternoon storms this time of year also.

Yeah, 10-4 on the Buena Vista area. Some good little trout streams running through there too, kind of paralleling the main road.
