Freezer question

Got off of night shift this morning and found kids had left new freezer door open last night after getting ice cream. Some stuff had thawed.
Question is just fan was running and compressor was too hot to touch. Compressor is not running. Is there a thermal overload load? Or is it burned up? I've had it unplugged but don't see any ice build up.

This happened to me once. It should eventually come back on. We left for vacation and the frig door didnt shut all the way. Thought it broke but it was just running overtime.

They have a thermal over-load protector. It should be fine.
