    Adding Insulation to Existing Walls?

I have an old house up on stilts. We are 14' in the air. Concrete below. The house has poorly insulated exterior walls. Really all the walls. I have vinyl siding around the outside with aluminum roll down shutters.

I was wondering if I can add a foam insulation to the walls from the inside of the house?

I am sure they make a foam that you can inject into the stud cavities.

We did the exact same thing a few years ago with the blow in insulation you buy from Lowe's a couple years ago one of my dads rent houses. Cut 2 holes the same diameter as the hose per stud bay. One about half way up the wall, and another right below the top plate. Start with the bottom hole until filled to there, and then do the top. It made a huge difference. Pretty messy inside, but well worth it. Pretty sure the machine to blow it in was free rental from Lowe's since we bought enough insulation.

We drill a 6" hole near the top plate and stick the hose down each cavity and fill with insulation on existing homes. Then you have to have a sheetrocker put the 6" piece back, tape/ float/ texture/ and paint.

The foam is really amazing and the increase in R factor is very impressive ..

With the home so high I cannot think of any other way that would be as simple as the foam ..

We did our home and it has helped in both summer and winter ..

What foam are you referring to?

In addition, if your "cold floor" (the floor you walk on) is elevated and not insulated, spraying that with closed cell will help a lot. I say closed because Open cell will hold moisture.

How can you tell if there is blocking or any other obstruction keeping the insulation from going all the way down the wall?

This is why we did it with two holes per stud bay. Amazing how easy it is for electrical wires to keep it from falling all the way down to the bottom.

                  There are two ways.

Slow rise closed cell foam or cellulose blown it.

What's the cost to do the foam??
