Use the maroon belt (medium) to establish the angle, 10 swipes on both sides. Switch to grey belt (fine) and swipe 10 times on both sides. You should be able to shave afterwards. After this process, when you need to touch a blade up, swipe 2 times with maroon belt and 10 times with grey belt. I use the same process with both hunting and kitchen knives. Hope this helps

Yes this helps. Just wanted to know about different belts. Thanks.

My model came with two 120 grit belts.
Will look at the next model up for better instructions

I have the Ken Onion Edition and really like it. Not only did it come with directions but it also came with a schematic which shows what blade angle and which belts to use for different types of knives.
One thing I have never seen discussed on any of these Worksharp threads is the speed of the belt rotation people use when sharpening. People say they will take off a lot of metal and I would agree with that if one is using it on the highest speed and not drawing the blade across the belt in a consistent motion.
I am no expert on knife sharpening but I use probably a little less that half speed when sharpening my knifes and it has worked great for me.

I’ve got a Work Sharp and Wicked Edge. The Wicked Edge is the bees knees, but it’s $$$. I’m not a fan of how much metal the Work Sharp removes, but I love the purple belt on them. I reprofile and sharpen blades on the WE, then touch them up with the WS. It’s scary how easy I can get a knife extremely sharp this way. I’ve got a few axes that will shave better than a large majority of sharp knives. I’ve got a video of them taking hair like butter.

I use the green coarse belt with a knife I have never sharpened, about 10 times on each side. I also use it for hoes, Mower blades and such. Then I use the medium red/brown belt 10 times on each side. If I have sharpened the knife, I start the resharpening process with this one. For kitchen knives, I sometimes stop here as I don't want them too sharp. Lastly, I use the purple fine belt and do 10-15 times on each side then finish with a leather strop. I go through 3x the purple fine belts than the others so I but them on Amazon rather than the assortment pack.

Thanks. None of that is listed in my instructions for the model bought. Even the replacement belts from Workshop only sell 120 grit. I have found aftermarket belts that will fit my specific model that are course to fine.
