Supposed to be 40F when my plane lands tonight in Calgary, and I should wake up to snow flurries tomorrow morning. That doesn’t suck at all.

What DOES suck is I’m not going hunting! And that I have to leave early Friday morning.

Looking forward to following your hunt. Conditions should be perfect... assuming I don’t get your guide too drunk tomorrow night to wake up Friday morning. 😬

All packed. Giddy like a 7 year old boy being told the summer before deer season that this is his year to hunt for his own buck...having been that same boy , I totally get it !

Get him drunk Duane. He’s all Canadian and bred for it !

Buddy Ali’s (my hunting buddy from Fluor Canada office who does all my custom rifle loads when we lived here ) and his elk just west of town this morning in the very hard to gain access Calgary bow only zone.

Little hike along the Bow River with Kendra. Dinner date tonight with old friends, one night in Calgary before heading south tomorrow.

Made it to Claresholm and checked into Bluebird Motel and grabbed a bite to eat at Roy’s diner.

Headed out to make an evening hunt / glass to see if we cannot pinpoint some elk for tomorrow morning

Snow flurries on drive , but has since stopped.

Saw 10 bulls confirmed between two properties. Kevin called in a nice 4x4 right a dark at thirty yards and I buried an arrow into him. Appeared to be a little high. We think we saw him bed down (it was really dark) and based on his actions decided to let him lay over night instead of pushing him. Lots blood on my arrow but concerned I only got one lung or high shoulder.

It was an incredible experienced, particularly when we all thought the evening was over as this all happened as we were coming off the mountain.

I am absolutely miserable but know we needed to let him be as pushing him wasn’t an option.

Going to be a long night.

Sounds like a crazy day, many highs and one low, nothing you can do now, but wait it out and pray he stays bedded and you got enough lung for him to die. Good luck in the morning.
