    Snake vaccine for dogs

Has anyone had their dogs vaccinated for snake's,does it really help if your dog is bit?I have read up and some say it's a waist, others swear by it.We have run our dogs through the snake avoidance but I would like a little more protection if possible. We have a place north of Brownwood and have no shortage of rattlesnakes and copperhead's and they like our back porch on the house,so I feel it's a little matter of time before they run in to a snake

Mine have been vaccinated and bitten. My Doberman was bitten in the snout twice last year by rattlers, and recovered with no antivenom both times in 24 hours-just benadryl and rest. My Jack russell was bitten once on the nose by a rattler and needed 2 vials of antivenom. She was back to normal in about 3 days. She's killed several rattlesnakes, and that was the first time she'd been bitten. She still got him though.

It’s cheap insurance, even if it just buys you a little more time to get them to the vet.

I get the shot for my hunting dogs. I figure they need all the protection for the things I ask them to do for me.

How long is the vaccination effective?

We have our dog vaccinated every year. I pray he is never bitten why at the ranch! or home for that matter.

We get our beagle vaccinated every year. Never gotten bit (thank God) but it's cheaper than a vet bill for antivenom and other costly treatment.

I get my lab the shot once or twice a year. For sure before dove season and usually before spring turkey (think it lasts about 6 months). It's not that bad; google shows $20-$40. Our bill is usually closer to $100 but there's other items on the bill.

Funny to see this post today, as I just called the vet this morning.

2nd injection is one month after the 1rst injection, then annually each spring.

Each injection is a little less than $30 at my vet.

I like this, it sounds like a solid plan, and is definitely cheap insurance.

It for sure gives you some added comfort when at the ranch!
