    Oak or cedar elm?

If you were gonna plant a tree in your backyard to go along with another oak, would you go with another oak, or a cedar elm? Pretty windy spot its gonna go in. Which one gonna grow faster, and give me a "tree"? If im starting out with about an 8ish footer?

Cedar elm. If you get oak wilt, you don't lose them both.

If you live on a corner or along a busy street, go with the oak. If out in the country...cedar elm.
My oak save me from a F350 barreling into my house.

If you want it for shade the Oak will have leaves year round the Cedar Elm will not.

That's only for live oaks. And they make messes year round

Cedar elm will grow faster but has a smaller canopy, but I think it fits your purpose.

I prefer the look of an old oak tree. Cedar Elm will grow faster though.
Guess I’d plant the Cedar Elm in your situation

Chinese pistache is pretty and grows really fast. For the choices you listed, the elm

I planted a red oak about a year before I planted a rio grande ash...the ash is about 2-3 times larger already. (and the cows pulled it out of the ground twice)

I lost tons of cedar elms with the droughts. They also appear to be susceptible to bugs and woodpeckers.
