My sons first real bow, thanks DelrioWil!

A Big thanks goes out to Delriowil for making the bow and to Tinman for posting the instructions on how to do so in the DIY section.

Delriowil, you've got a way of making stuff that keeps me envious- it looks great.

Due to the weather we’ve only had a few shooting sessions, but he is getting the hang of it.
Look at that form would ya!-

All he wanted to do was shoot the deer, so after about 5 tries he nailed it-

Thanks again DelrioWil, I owe you one!

I knew keeping those banged up carbons around would come in handy some day.
Great stock for a 25" shaft. He's spine is probably a tad stiff though .
Now I can watch my hunting shows with less protest, he likes to "shoot" the deer.
(how many dry fires at 1/3 draw can this rig handle?)

(dang these pics are HUGE- sorry)

How old is that little shooter? I have him between 4 and 5 y/o. Mine are 3 1/2 and was not sure if they were big enough. Guess I will have to make some and find out.

Great post and good luck to you and oyur son.

                Thanks for the kind words.

He just turned 4 on Dec 31st.
Old enough yet? well he was spraying them pretty good on the second time out. First time out he was concentrating more on what I was saying and how to shoot, the results had me thinking I had a natural on my hands (still might). Second time out he was more familiar with it and just started flinging them without much care on where they landed.
                I think he's shooting a sub 3 foot group range from a 10' distance .

I'm trying real hard not to turn the fun off by correcting him too soon so for now he just plucks away - accuracy be ****ed.
                He'll pick it up eventually.
For now my backstop and the grass in front of the target are catching some abuse.
                It’s all good.

A BUNCH!...that's all I know for sure. But you don't want to draw it too far. Most of my broken bows are a result of someone drawing it too far (usually me when testing them). I shoot, draw too far, and dry fire the heck out of them the leave here...there's not enough draw weight for a dry fire to damage them.

BTW, I cut the kids arrows off at 18-22" to help prevent them being drawn too far. If you re-fletch a couple with feathers, it'll get much better arrow flight than with vanes.

Bow looks great, Wil! What color stain is that? Makes the Red Oak look neat.

Feathers? oops, guess I need to stock up on those.

                    Thanks for the tip.

Kevin, do not worry about the dry fire. I can make two in about an hour. total work time. I made two this week while I was off from work., so fix'en up another won't be a problem. I must say he does not have your form, who has he been watching. I'm glad he is liking it, the smile says it all.

Tinman, I used Golden Oak 201B. That particular piece of wood was the best piece I found, but the grain in the upper limb had a very slight twist to it but still shoots good. I am having a ball making these little bows. It keeps me out of troubel, Well maybe not.

Tinman, Correction on the stain on that bow. I just put a clear finish over it. The other bows that I have made are with the golden oak stain.
