    Minimal Movement for Me!

There was a thread a few days maybe a couple of weeks about the Netflix show Minimal. I actually watched that show a long time ago and to be honest it really shocked me. I find myself doing much of what is covered in it.

I often times will just go out and for what ever reason find a "need" for something and just buy it. Over the weekend I have decided that I am done with this type of life style. I have way too much stuff that I don't use or quite honestly will probably not use.

I have several bows that I haven't shot in year, a safe full of guns that I have only shot once or twice and a garage full of crap that i can't actually move around in my garage.

I can't be the only one? I know some of you guys are going to say, you buy things because you can and that is totally true. What i have realized in the past couple of years is that all though i make a good living and live a good life, i think it can be better. I usually take 1 family vacation (just my daughter and I) per year but also have been doing some traveling on my own with friends. I think i am going to do more of both as i typically do not use up the allotted vacations that i have at work.

All of these things that i have purchased don't do me any good and honestly just collect dust.

I have a lot of stuff that I have bought over the years because I refuse to borrow most things. I haven't used them a lot but I have had them when I needed them. I have gone through and gotten rid of some stuff that I don't need, but I'm not going to try to have just the bare minimum to do something either.

I agree with you. I am not doing the "bare" minimal but have several bows that i bought because i thought they were pretty or buying several targets because I got 3 for the price of two. For example i have 4 brand new targets sitting in my garage that i have never shot at. I realized over the recent past that i have way more than i need and sometimes i think it is an investment but the reality is that my daughter doesn't care.

I have a collection of expensive pens that have been in the safe for years. One of them is about 4k about 10 years ago when i last checked. Those are things my daughter has no need for and I'm not sure it is really a good investment.

A few years ago I gathered up 11 guns and sold them. I've sold 4/5 since then and haven't missed any of them. Looking in my safe this morning, I see a couple more I could part with, and probably will. I'm down to one bow, (from three), and can't say I missed those either. As I get older, knowing most of my life is behind me, I've started thinking about making it easier on my wife, and taking care of some of this before she has to. IMO, most of us have too much "stuff", and I'm certain I do.

I agree i have too much stuff. I love to fish and I am going to limit the amount of different toys that i have to just what i enjoy.

I play golf a couple of times a year (I think 4 to be exact) but i buy a new set of clubs every two years. Just plain stupid!!!! I can't hit any better with the new set versus the old set. I still suck anyway you look at it.

I'm certain they already think that!

I'm an only child and my parents have a LOT of stuff. My husband said we are getting a roll off when it's time. I sure hope that is a long time from now but I dread going through all of it!

I have way too much stuff too. I buy things thinking I will need that down the road so I better get it now while I can afford it. In reality I have stuff that I have never used but had to have it. I guess when I retire in a few years I can sell lots of stuff that I know I won't use and stash the cash.

the problem is that you paid retail price for something and when you do sell it it is for much less.

I am going to start a down sizing of crap in the next few months.
