    Which elk calls?

What are y'alls favorite elk calls? I need to purchase one soon and become proficient.

Primos Timberline Open Reed call is easy to learn and repeat. Cow calls will be all you need if you're not proficient at elk calling (I'm still learning to bugle, but I can cow call pretty ****ed good). The Timberline will allow every cow call from a calf call to a estrous plead.

Looking for a reed, or bit and blow?

If Reed I would buy the BRO Phelps pack. Covers about all air pressure then you can decide which one to buy multiples of.

Bit and blow. Bugling bull is easy to use

Sceery Ace-1 special elk call and a Primos cow girl for bite and blow calls. The power bugle by ELK inc is a good bugle for those who don't use diaphragm calls.
I carry at least 2 cow calls, they can gather spit inside and not work so have a second one just in case you get flooded, lol.

Yep as mentioned.. but a pack and find which one is most repeatable and then by multiples of those. They can wear out in a hurry.

I would look at some of Roe Hunting Resources instructional videos on youtube. He is next level when it comes to knowing what each call means and when to use it. Way more than just reading how to do it on an elk call package.

The dude knows what he's talking about. He films his hunts and explains why he will use a certain call/call sequence. He has tons of good videos calling in bulls while explaining what he's doing. I have a membership to his website and its awesome stuff for an elk hunter who wants to know what he's saying and when to say it.

There isn’t just one dominating call.

If you are serious about learning to truly call elk it will be a little expensive up front as you find the right reed. Every one blows a mouth reed differently.

As far as bite and blow version calls... all about the same, bugling bull, primos, dual, Carlton, Knight, etc.

I know it’s not a huge help but it’s the reality.

As far as just bare basics and simplicity, Carlton lonesome call, and bugling bulls select a bull. You can learn those in 10 min

Never heard of a born and raised Phelps call, but I second anything made by Phelps. I have a spent more than enough on Phelps calls, love them.

Special edition for the Born and Rasied crew(set of three reeds). It’s a good mix of different latex thicknesses

Most effective calls I have ever used were made by Ed Sceery.
