    Flying with a revolver?

My wife is an RN and will be going to a lactation conference in Charlotte, NC next month. Is there any way for her to take her Taurus 606 revolver with her on the plane? I know that it would have to be in her checked luggage if at all. NC has a reciprocal CHL agreement with the state of Texas and she is a CHL holder. I'm sure some TBHer knows all the legalities of this kind of thing.

Effective with tickets purchased on/after September 24, 2007, American Airlines will no longer accept firearms in checked baggage to/from the United Kingdom (except for military/government personnel with proper documentation).

The information shown below pertains to travel within the United States only (unless stated otherwise). For information on the transportation of firearms and ammunition to international destinations, please contact Reservations.

    General Information

    * Firearms and ammunition are accepted as checked baggage only.
    * Firearms will only be accepted if unloaded and in a locked, hard-sided container only (for example - rifle case).
    * Ammunition must be packed in its original packaging. Loose ammunition or clips will not be accepted.
    * Firearms may not be checked curbside.
    * No one under 18 years of age may check a firearm.
    * Pellet and BB guns are not considered firearms, and therefore, do not require any special handling or documentation.

    Allowance

    * Maximum per case is three rifles/shotguns or five pistols/revolvers, five lbs. ammunition, shooting mat, noise suppressors, and tools. There is no limit on the amount of cases allowed.
    * Ammunition is limited to 11 lbs. per passenger.
    * Based on the number of checked bags, fees may apply in addition to oversize/overweight charges. Visit the Baggage Allowance page for more information.

It has to be checked and has to be in an airline approved, lockable case.

To save any hassles, I would just have her buy more ammo when she gets there rather than shipping ammo with the gun. I believe it has to be checked separately but not 100% sure on that.

She can not take her revolver onto that plane in her carry-on baggage or on her person.

She should be able to bring it in her checked baggage as long as it is declaired and unloaded and in a lockable container.

I can't believe that NONE of you guys commented on the conference. Everyone must be wearing their Sunday best.

I wonder if the conference slogan is "Got Milk?"

I've asked her before if I could shadow her and watch her work. She doesn't think it's nearly as funny as I do.

The answers are above that you need. Charlotte is very nice and I doubt that it will be needed if the conference is downtown or out on the interstate but if all else fails the Bass Pro Shop there is VERY nice!!!!

Checked, locked hardside container inside her luggage, declare it when she checks in.

Have her find out if it's OK for a gal to 'whip it out' and feed the baby in public since it's 'natural', is it OK for a guy to look over (since it's also 'natural')? Inquiring minds want to know.

I assume it is a conference for work?!

If I was to go to a conference related to work, even though I would be out of town, technically I would be working and WOULD NOT be allowed to carry
