    Boat gurus another prop question

I have a 1995 polar 17’ skiff with a 50hp Merc Force on it, After a test run today completely empty beside me and fuel basically I topped out at 29.6mph which is the fastest I’ve ever gotten this boat. I understand a 50hp is kinda under gunned on this boat. Once it gets on plane it runs good but it can’t get out of a hole shot to save its life.

I have a 3 blade prop on it now no idea on what pitch it is. I’m thinking about changing to a prop that can get me on plane faster.

Is it worth it? The boats not very fast already and my understanding is a 4 blade prop will cut off top end.

When I topped out at 29.6 it was at 4900rpms. If that means anything.

    Any suggestions?

Id say you need 5500 rpms, but that means a new prop. You are under powered so may be chasing your tell tryinj to get more out of it.

4 blade will be faster out of the hole and higher rpms, could be faster at WOT

May wanna decrease prop diameter also to get you more revs.

Just looked it up. Your rpm range is 4500 to 5000 so you are in the right range.

On the motor it says 5200 max rpm. I guess I just have deal with what I have then.

Older motor shouldn't be too hard to find a prop.

What pitch are you? Drop some pitch and it will improve hole shot and top end rpm. Especially loaded.

If its stainless venting will help.
