Also, if I toss about 10 of them in my hot tub, will it sufficiently cool it down?

I've used it before and yes, it's sold by the pound, in various small sizes. It worked well for what I needed it for.

I had a motor shaft we had to keep cool while we heated the hub at work. I thought perfect DRY ICE! We flew down to the local HEB and saw the price. I grabbed 3 blocks and went to the register. It was shocking when she said that will be 40 something dollars with a smile... I looked back over and they had 3 pound blocks that were priced by the pound. I am not sure if they are constantly receiving different size blocks, and that is the reason why they price it that way. It sure is deceiving, but It worked like a champ.

dry ice was a secret weapon ive used for our annual garner trips... keeps the trips into town for ice down to a minimum.
Just saw it at HEB and wondered if its 'real' dry ice ..or some packaged 'cooler than ice' product...

The stuff we got in Lake Jackson was certainly the real deal.

We use it on kayak trips for our "ice" cooler. Only issue we've ever had is that the normal ice slightly melts when opening the cooler and then the dry ice refreezes it and you end up with a massive block of rock solid ice so you have to chip away with a knife or something.

It definitely works for the purpose you're suggesting.

A sure way to tell is to put a chunk of it in your pocket.

Put the dry ice on the top

My HEB has various sizes depending on the age of the block and how much it has evaporated. Works great, but you have to place a layer of cardboard between the block and your contents or it will freeze it solid or freezer burn items quickly.
