    Thoughts on Mako Skiffs?

Greetings everyone. It's been awhile since I'd last posted a thread here. I am wondering if any of you have any experience with Mako boats? I am looking into purchasing my first boat and am liking the way the Mako Pro Skiff 17 look. The performance seems to be pretty good too but it was a video I saw on youtube that may be biased.

They are made by Tracker Marine and am concerned about some things I've read on the web like Tracker not standing behind their products. Some previous Mako owners also complained about their boats cracking and leaking but that was about 5-6 years ago. I Haven't seen much lately so hopefully they are reliable now. Would appreciate your guy's input.

    Thanks!

Tracker Marine are entry level boats. They are on your lower end of boats. If you look closely you can see where they cut corners etc..

I didn't know that! Definitely want a good boat that will last a long time. What would you recommend? I was also looking at the Lowe Stinger line.

I have a Shoalwater Cat 14foot, never been in the Mako, but it looks like you would get beat up in there is any kinda chop in the bay

Main thing is what are you using it for? Your location shows dfw, if you're fishing lakes around here I would caution away from a skiff type boat and get something with a v hull.

If you're truly looking for a skiff, only experience I've had on skiffs are on an Ankona Copperhead and a Hewes Redfisher. Which are both excellent for what they're made for

As for Mako, I would caution away from it and ANY manufacturer that is carried by bass pro / cabelas. Even Ranger, I would only buy from a Ranger dealer. Too many horror stories about service issues with Tracker Marine

Thank you. I appreciate your input. I am mainly a bass angler and was initially looking to purchase a bass boat. However, my dad and brothers have been hinting me to get something else so they can do multi-species fishing as well. May look into the Lowe Stinger instead of a skiff? It will be mainly for fishing lakes.

I too was considering the Mako Pro Skiff at BP until I looked at other boats. The quality is night and day. I ended up buying a Carolina Skiff JVX18. I believe it's still an entry level boat but for a little more money I think you get a much, much better boat, motor and trailer. I am very glad I didn't go with the Mako.

This. There are better boats out there.

What will your primary use be and where will you be using it?

Thank you everyone. Primary use will be targeting bass if I am out by myself. If my dad and brothers tag along, most likely whitebass, crappies, hybrids and stripers. I only care about bass fishing since I don't consume them anyway.

Can anyone recommend a boat dealership? Anything other than Cabelas or BPS

There is a 20+ thread on those mako skiffs on 2cool. Dude bought one and between the DIY and dealer fixes he could have bought a better boat and come out ahead

and although Not a Skiff, Pathfinders are great boats that can get get skinny and probably a better all-round boat.
