Stay away from Bermuda if you want ANY wildlife benefit. I would go with a native mix of maybe little bluestem, side oats gramma, indian grass and possibly even a switch grass. If it were me, I'd also add in a bunch of perennial forbs like Illinois Bundleflower and Maxmillian Sunflowers

Bermuda and fescue are big reasons for the decline in quail numbers across the country. Whitetail won't use it much either, as they aren't big grazers.

Its probably too late, but leaving some native brush or trees in the field make it much more attractive to wildlife as it provides some bedding/loafing cover.

          Wow.

I just planted some Klein and it was 22 dollars an acre. And I thought that was high.

I laughed at the guy and said “that’s the only thing I’ve heard of that makes Bermuda look cheap”

Might be worth your time to talk to the extension office. I bought my ww b dahl from Turner several years ago and rented a seeder from the NRCS office to plant it. Took a few years to really take off but now it's got a good hold. It does deter fire ants.
