    Trucks pulling to the left

Was coming back from the lake this afternoon and could hear some grinding sounds. Wasnt constant. But then the front end started vibrating and pulling to the left. Was two miles from home. Slowed down and drove home. Pulled up to my moms and it was smoking. Truck is ‘02 chevy z71 4x4. Any ideas before i take to shop this week?

If it is the hub or cv axle its an easy fix .

I would replace both, probably in the $300 range.

CV boot is torn - even if the axle is still ok better fix it ASAP, otherwise the axle will be toast.

This depending on where you shop. RockAuto generally has pretty good deals on hubs and shafts. Hubs are anywhere between $200-400 depending on brand. Shafts can be had for around $75-100.

Jack the truck up and see if you can wiggle the tire. Grab the top of the tire and push on it, if there is any play it is the hub bearing. It may have wiped the cv shaft if it was going bad.

Detroit axle is about the cheapest online. I got mine at auto zone for my Dodge for ten dollars more with no wait, parts in stock. Took about as long to jack up and take wheel off to fix it.

                          Yes. Do hub and axle.

Hub most likely. I have seen them get so hot it looks like the rim has been tempered.

Was it not making a whining noise. Then when you would turn or change lanes it would stop? Usually they give a warning before just going out.
