Coffee on the swing Snake ID

Hey guys, I had been having coffee on the front porch swing for about an hour and a half this am. I was just relaxing listening to someone’s chickens, cows, birds and watching three cottontails in the yard. I went to move the sprinkler and right at the corner of the house behind my swing was this little rascal. I know it’s not poisonous but what kind is it sayeth the Tbh faithful? Happy Memorial weekend and carry on! Dilly Dilly!!!

That'll get me going faster than the coffee will.

Looks to be a Western Rat Snake (formerly Texas Rat). One good clue that it's a rat snake is when you see a snake all "kinked" like that. Rats have amazing control of their bodies. It's why most are excellent climbers.

I just wonder how many rat/chicken snake id threads there have been on the GS?? You'd think by now everybody from Stevie Wonder on down would know how to identify a dang rat snake...
