Sad news in the world of bowhunting as our friend and longtime Compton member Mel Johnson recently passed on. Mel’s record breaking Whitetail buck taken in 1965 still stands as the largest typical Whitetail taken with a bow under P&Y’s scoring system. He used a 70# recurve to take his world record. Mel remained an avid hunter and outdoorsman his entire life and a strong supporter of both the Pope and Young Club and the Compton Traditional Bowhunters.
