    Warning: Bird Island Ramp

I remember back in the winter they shut down the ramp for repairs but something went wrong because there is a huge pile of rocks and concrete just right of center if your backing in. We hit it last month but just kinda of forgot about it. Well fast forward to a low tide and clear water and I was able to see it this week. They put cones across most of the ramp but left space next to the dock. DO NOT LAUNCH THERE unless the tide is high high. We had to use the shell ramp on the right side of dock. Be careful there as well, it drops off sharp.

Yea I was there a few weeks ago. That shell ramp is horrible it drops off so fast. It's hard to get the boat back on the trailer. Something needs to be done with this ramp

Interesting, maybe prop wash is stacking the rocks there then or something. In my mind, I thought it was just a bad repair job. Maybe not so much??

they probably spent about 20 million dollars re doing that road that really didn't need to be redone through the park, but the ramp has been in bad shape for a while and they can't seem to "find" the money to repair it.

there has been a pile of concrete off to the side closest to the bathroom for years and years.

they tried to blame it on the hurricane, but the effects of harvey were negligible that far south. I don't know what happened, but it was over the winter

You figure with the boat ramp fees they would repair it. Seems they can keep the wind surfing area proper.

I heard that they got it repaired for the Holiday weekend. Can anyone confirm?

They were working on it Friday... had a barge with a crane and a water jet getting them out of the way. Can't confirm it was fixed but they were trying.

The ramp at bird island is not fixed. And starting June 1st the pass for the ramp is going up by 3x. Typical for the federal government.

Doesn't surprise me any. I haven't used that ramp since my truck was broken into years ago before they changed the road. Rather run the 11 miles from Marker 37 or from the Bluff.
