Just a couple of things on this. Mr. Dean was a very strong swimmer I was told and also an avid outdoorsman as a lot of us are and had kayaked this area many many times. We are not sure what chain of events led to this tragic accident but the end result is what it is. I was told there was a life jacket but it was not on him. There are lots of unanswered questions that I hope get answered for the family. This has hit the family extreamly hard please keep them in your prayers.

I guess the one thing I took from this today was this. If you don’t want to do it for yourself do it for your loved ones. Believe it or not each and every one of us has somebody someplace who loves and depends on us. Buckle that seatbelt, put on that life jacket and wear that safety harness. Below is a local article on the accident.

                                DROWNING ON LAKE CONROE

Just after 7:30 am Sunday a 56-year-old, Spring man was on his kayak near the Scott’s Ridge Boat Ramp and Swimming area of Lake Conroe when several people on shore saw what appeared to be him in the water and in distress. One boater tried to get him, however his engine failed to start on his boat. Montgomery County 911 was called and immediately DPS, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched. I addition Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constables Lake Patrol, Conroe rescue, North Montgomery County and Montgomery County Fire/ Rescue boats were also dispatched. As the Lake Patrol arrived on the scene they recovered the red kayak with several belongings including life vests. The area was closed off to the public and a search with side scan sonar was started. Once several targets were marked divers went to the water. Many of the hits turned out to be tires put down by fisherman for the fish. Just before 1 p.m. heavy rains moved into the area with lightning causing the operation to cease for a short time. However, is was quickly started again. Then just before 1:30 as more heavy storms moved in the crews were again called off the lake. However, as they were coming in the victim was found and the body recovered. Montgomery County Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack responded to the scene to perform an inquest. Eickenhorst Funeral Directors transported the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
