    Tired of talking

I got an accounting degree and hate the corporate world. Im gonna go teach high school and mentor some kids and hopefully make some kind of difference. I was a very “troubled” child so can probably make some kind of impact. If anyone can guide me through the process please PM me. Im ready to get going asap. I have a bachelors degree.

Speak with your local school district and see what kind of certificate program you can join and take.

With your accounting degree. A math job should be easy for you to secure. Good Math teachers are hard to find. Good luck sir. My wife’s family has about 20 teachers from k- principal. It can be very rewarding And stressful all at the same time

Get ahold of your regions education district. That’s how my wife got her teachers certification cheaper and faster than a college and they guarantee you a job afterwards. She did night classes. Most colleges have a 2 year program you have to go thru.

I love it! You could also become a counselor with a little more school. Pick what area or district and get after it.

Are you thinking math? What grade?

There are several options for you. Since you have a bachelors already technically all you need is to be certified through a program like Iteach Texas, then pass the PPR and your subject area tests. School districts can even hire you as a teacher while you go through the program if they are willing to. This is nice because you will be getting paid and it will count toward your “student teaching” time for the program. We have done it numerous times. We are now a “district of innovation” and it allows us to be even more flexible with our hiring. This all varies from district to district so.....

A few questions that may change your route.....1. do you have a specific school you want to teach at? And 2. Do you have a specific subject you want to teach?

If you have a school you want to work for I would start by talking to them. Principal, superintendent, or someone who can tell you what positions they have/will have open and what they are willing to do as far as you getting certified etc.

If you don’t have a school preference but are dead set on a certain subject, you will have to either get certified first and then apply or you will have to do some leg work finding schools that are hiring for what you want to teach and then see if they are willing to work with you.

The other option is to get fully certified first and then go apply for whatever job you want. The benefit to this is you will be hire-able on the spot as you are certified and ready to go. The downfall is you could be trying to get certified in a specific subject for a school and there is no guarantees what will change from now until then. The spot may no longer be available or people get shuffled around.

All of this is dependent on the school district and how bad they need you. Many places it can be fairly easy to get hired, others not so much. I was hired on emergency certification at both jobs I’ve had because the job that I took I was not certified in yet. They hired me and allowed me to take the test later.

I would try to talk to someone within the school district Asap who can lead you in the right direction and help get your foot in the door. When a position comes open most people usually have someone already in mind before it’s posted to the public. Now is the time they are searching hiring and looking. Come July schools get even more desperate. Good luck!

Id like to teach at the HS across the street. Any subject really or any local HS. Thats the age where you can really turn a young person around thats going down the wrong path before they are released to society. My original plan was to get a Masters in psychology and work with kids/young adults but I think teaching will be a great stepping stone to that or might turn out to be a career long move.

When I was in the Army and federal LE it wasnt a job as much as a life. Serving a purpose to the greater good is something missing in my life. Im pretty sure this will be a great fit.
