    Backpacks

I like many of you carry one to the blind or for the hike. Sometimes I think I am over weighted with crap I do not need.

Other times I wish I had that in my pack. Yeah I know. I am not over nighting looking for elk in higher elevations. I also have a hydration pack in one of them but sometimes just carry water bottles.

I can never seem to have the correct items of what is essential for ONE day vs. too much weight for nothing I will use.

How do you decide what to take and what gets left behind??

What always gets in the bag.

    Binos
    Range Finder
    Extra release/ammo
    Knife
    TP or paper towels

    Everything else is luxury items...

Weight and distance walked in to determine the rest. By the time I leave at the end of the trip I have to carry out everything in the UTV

For my pack and this is either hunting or hiking so things will be added depending on the situation but I'll always have
      Headlamp
      Multitool
Tiny first aid kit like individual triple antibiotic a couple different meds like Benadryl Tylenol individually packed etc
A few snacks like nuts or granola bars I can leave in there all year if I need to
A portable power source from my cell phone that will give me an extra charge
A little bit of 550 chord
      Toilet paper
Then a very small kit like an Altoid can with miscellaneous like a lighter fire starter a little bit of duct tape Super Glue. Extra batteries for my headlamp

I just look into my pack and decide what I want in there.

To be more specific, the first thing I decide I want in my backpack is toilet paper.

I have always wonder why so many people carry stuff back only to haul it back that night and carry it back the next day. Get a ammo can or plastic box and leave it. If I know I'm coming back to the same blind, I leave 90+% of my stuff in the blind.

You girls have missed the point. Roy did not ask what you carry in your pack.

He wants to know how you decided what to take.

                      Discuss.

What I take depends on how far I plan to get from my truck, my atv, and anyone else. And how long I MIGHT be out and the weather.

                        Basic first aid kit
                        Emergency kit
                        Snacks/drinks
In-field game recovery and processing as needed

^^ Always go in my pack.
