    Steel reservoir pool

So I have a steel reservoir at my house that's about 30' diameter and 5' tall. It's a water storage that I use to supply my pens with water and horse water. I was wanting to turn it into a make shift pool for my wife and my niece and nephew to be able to swim in. I don't need pool quality water but was wanting to clean the water up. Most of the reservoirs here have constant water going in and out and they stay pretty clean, this reservoirs is at the end of the pipe line so not a whole lot of water going out of it so it ends up getting stagnant and dirty. What kibd of filter system can I put on it that would clean the water up and then I would also put chlorine in it as well. Looking for input from any pool guys on here.

Check Craigslist and FB Marketplace. Could find somebody that has an old above ground set up that is torn or needs repair that comes with pump and hoses. Then trash pool, fit pump and hoses to your tank. And now you are in business.

Or could possibly even find just a pump system for cheap and set it up.

I see a lot of pumps/filters on facebook market and craigslist that used to go to peoples above ground pools. It would be pretty easy to rig one of those up to circulate and filter the water in reservoir. You can throw some chlorine tabs in the pump filter to keep things a bit clear and any moss in check.

If you aren't swimming in it every day then I'd just throw some shock in it and it will clear up. Wait 24hrs or so then you can swim in it. If you are swimming in it everyday then get a test kit or even easier some test strips, muratic acid, and chlorine tabs. I think Pool University on YouTube can walk you through the basics. Test kit will tell you if you need to add acid, chlorine or buffer. But again if its just a tank with occasional swimming I wouldn't put much more than chlorine tabs to clear it up.

                What kind of steel?
Chlorine can be hard on steel even if it’s stainless.

Get the water moving possibly with a fountain pump. Also some chlorine would help kill some stuff off. More it's moving less chance of stuff growing and bugs taking to it

We did the same thing on our deer lease.
It was concrete but the idea is the same I guess. First we drained it to remove all of the silt and muck in there. Then we power washed the sides and floor to get it clean. Next we put a used pool pump and used one of the floating chlorine tablet things. We built a deck on it, it was great!

There are a ton of videos on YouTube lately on this very subject

                        Look for “Stock Tank Pool”

I’m liking the idea, and am thinking of one for this summer

A simple above ground pool filter system seems to be the popular solution.
